The New Haven Charter
(Basic Principles of a Cooperative Community)
INTRODUCTION:
The underlying purpose of the Basic Principles of the Egalitarian Community laid out below, is to create and maintain a positive and peaceful community or group of individuals that are all constantly working to live in the most simple, easy, happy and positive way.
Since the current Social Structure across the whole World is driven by egoism, greed, and the benefit of the few at the expense of the many, a new Social Structure must be created and used to create new Communities and organize them in a sound, sane and fair way of life. The most fair and promising social structure is Egalitarianism: the belief and ideal that all people are equal and deserve equal Rights and Opportunities.
If a group or community bases and rules itself Only by Egalitarian Principles, it will set itself on a path of equality and freedom from social injustice. This can be done within a self-directed, self-organized and self-ruled group or community, which exists independently of the laws of the land where it may exist.
Although, if the laws of the land conflict or impede the community’s Egalitarian Principles, it may be forced to defend itself (legally, or in other ways) and/or move to another area which is more conducive to its Egalitarian Goals and Principles. Still, since the usual Laws of the Land are Not Logical, Humanitarian nor Egalitarian but are mostly Anti-Egalitarian, conflicts with the Law of the Land should be avoided at all cost.
An Egalitarian Community is better off keeping to itself and concerning itself with its own survival, progress, peace, and happiness. Being mobile is a great advantage to any Egalitarian Community, as well as remaining small and independent.
The Basic Principles laid out here, are not intended to address the more specific rules and decisions which the group must deal with in their day to day life, but instead, it puts forth the basic underlying Rules and Principles which Must be followed by any Egalitarian Community if it wishes to call itself Egalitarian and to sincerely follow the Egalitarian way of life in their community or group.
Some rules cannot be altered or they will undermine the whole Egalitarian ideal and structure of the community, and these are expressed clearly and definitely below as "Must," "Can Not," etc. while suggestions are expressed as: "May," "Should," etc.
The Basic Principles here laid out are Not open to interpretation by Anyone, Ever. They are simply and clearly written and they Mean Exactly what they Say. There is nothing to interpret so any individual can understand them easily, and in case of confusion, they can be easily understood by using a common dictionary to clear up any misunderstanding.
Some Key Words and Ideas that Must be understood by All members of the community are:
- Egalitarian
- Egalitarianism
- Consensus
- Community
- Individual
- Group
- Society
Basic Principles of a Cooperative Society, Community, Tribe, or Group
- All individuals have the exact same value among themselves and toward the community as a whole.
- No individual or group can be thought of or treated as being above anyone in the community. Be they inside or outside of the community.
- There is never any discrimination of ANY KIND to anyone in the community in no way, shape or form.
- All individuals contribute to the well-being of community to the best of their abilities.
- Cooperation, (Not competition) is the basis of every decision, relationship, interaction, and activity.
- No individual can profit at the expense of another individual or at the expense of the community.
- Any and All decisions must be arrived at by *Consensus no matter how small and how long it may take to reach this Consensus. If a full agreement of all community members cannot be reached, the rule, decision or action Must be abandoned. It may be addressed in the future if the community decides they want to try again.
*Consensus means: 100% Agreement between All members of the group on the decision being arrived at. The idea or decision may have to be altered to take the shape that all will agree on.
- If the community grows to a size where deciding by Consensus becomes too lengthy or difficult, it may be divided in two or more smaller groups to make it easier for it to govern itself by Consensus.
- If it is decided to divide the community, it must be done in the most efficient and fair way possible - both new groups must have the best balance of individual member's abilities and of the available resources. Care must be taken as to not leave one group at a disadvantage of the other.
- As with everything, All decisions regarding the division of a community Must be arrived at by Consensus.
- Any and All transgressions committed against any member of the community, (or the Community as a whole) will be addressed by the whole group - and as any other decision by Consensus.
- Any “punishment” and or amends prescribed must be decided by Consensus by the whole community or group.
- If the transgression against the community is deemed to be a severe one, the group may decide to exile the individual from the community for a certain amount of time or forever. This should be considered a last resort and should only be considered for very strong transgressions and/or for repeat offenders.
- No individual can by action or inaction go against any of the Basic Principles outlined here.
- No individual can ever impose his or her values, religion, ideals, plans or decisions of Any Kind upon Any member of the community nor on the community as a whole, Ever, for No Reason Whatsoever – inside or outside our community.
- These Basic Rules follow the ideals of Egalitarianism and Cooperativism, which means that Every individual has the exact same worth and value as any other individual, and No individual is better, or above any other individual for any reason whatsoever, and no individual can gain Anything at the Expense of another or others, be they within or outside the community. Fair trade and fair dealings with outside individuals or groups are also expected and encouraged.
- Any change or amendment to these Basic Rules Must follow the ideals of Egalitarianism or they cannot be implemented at all. If the Basic Rules do not completely follow the Principles of Egalitarianism they will be doomed to follow the same fate as all other systems where cunning or powerful individuals prey on the rest of the community.
- Any amendment to the Basic Principles presented here can only be arrived at by Consensus.
- The Basic Principles laid out here are Not open to interpretation by Anyone, Ever. They are simply and clearly written, and they Mean Exactly what they Say. There is nothing to interpret so any individual can understand them easily, and in case of confusion, they can be easily understood by using a common dictionary to clear up any misunderstanding. So no individual can impose his or her interpretation on any other individual or on the group – Never. Ever.
- The Ruling Document on the Basic Principles is contained in this document and nowhere else. The only other documentation which may become necessary is a simple, standard Dictionary to be used to understand the plain language used here.
- No rule, law, transaction, or decision can ever conflict or go against the Basic Principles laid out here. For no reason whatsoever. Never. Ever.
